Forensic Psychiatry
Forensic psychiatry is the application of psychiatric principles in legal settings, the interface between law and psychiatry. It is a subspecialty of psychiatry. Dr. Caruso is fellowship trained and board certified in forensic psychiatry. He performs psychiatric evaluations for criminal and civil courts. Criminal court issues may involve competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of the alleged offense, mitigation for sentencing, coerced confessions and the role of intoxication and other factors in alleged sexual offenses. Dr. Caruso has extensive experience as an expert and consultant in military courts martials. Civil issues may involve disability, need for conservatorship, contested wills and psychic injury/malpractice. Dr. Caruso also performs independent medical evaluations, fitness for duty evaluations, utilization reviews and Worker’s Compensation evaluations. Dr. Caruso takes referrals for all of the aforementioned.
Clinical Psychiatry
Dr. Caruso also has an active clinical practice with Worker’s Compensation and private patients. Areas of expertise include Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Dr. Caruso sees patients face-to-face and remotely. He does not accept insurance. He is licensed in Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky.
